Welcome to the Battle of the Books. The Heartland Regional Library is organizing a Battle of the Books for the school districts that we service in the cities of Eldon, Tuscumbia, Iberia, St. Elizabeth, Vienna, and Belle. (Miller and Maries Counties)

Registered teams will read books from the Missouri Association of School Librarians nominated book lists.  There will be three levels to which teams may enter (maximum of 10 people per team).

Students in 4th - 6th grade may enter at the Mark Twain level
Students in 6th - 8th may enter at the Truman level
Students in 9th - 12th may enter at the Gateway level

Teams will read all of the books from the list at their level. Mark Twain - 12 books, Truman - 12 books, Gateway - 15 books. If you have the maximum of 10 members on your team, each person can expect to read one or two of these books. Teams with fewer members might necessitate members to read more books per person. Your team will need to make sure all of the books on the list are read by at least one member on your team.

Trivia events will be held in early January which will allow students time to read or brush up over the holiday break. The contest will consist of one round per book. Mark Twain will have 12 rounds, Truman will have 12 rounds, and Gateway will have 15 rounds. Each round will consist of 10 questions about the books.

If you have any questions, you may post them here or contact me by email:

Good luck and have fun reading!
